Cushman & Wakefield Chili Cook-off benefiting Race for Hope DC

Well, this year was finally our year!  OLS won the “Most Unique” award at the annual Cushman & Wakefield Chili Cook-off benefiting Race for Hope DC! And this year was truly a team effort.  Our President Scott cooked delicious pulled pork, the newest member of our team Sarah, turned it into a Verde Chili, and Miranda helped create a Going Green theme with all biodegradable products and plant life.  Proud of our team!

2018 – Quarterly Pledge

OLS has committed to be quarterly Bright Meal sponsors for 2018

After spending the day with Bendler & Company at Shepherd’s Table last year, OLS has committed ourselves to be quarterly Bright Meal sponsors for 2018! Our first day was a great success, serving piping hot chicken wings, roasted potatoes, carrots, and cheesecake to the attendees.  In the spring we prepared turkey and roast beef panini sandwiches, with tater tots, steamed vegetables, and dessert. Then in the summer Philly cheesesteaks, french fries, green beans, and dessert were on the menu.

OLS prepares & Serves lunch to Over 100 at shepards's table

OLS joined Bendler & Company to prepare and serve a delicious lunch to over 100 attendees at Shepherd’s Table in Silver Spring, MD. Since 1983 Shepherd’s Table has been providing homeless and in need individuals with basic services including meals, social services, medical support, clothing, and other assistance. Our team enjoyed this time to give back and reconnect with our neighborhood.

Cushman & Wakefield Chili Cook-off benefiting Race for Hope DC

OLS joined Cushman & Wakefield for their annual Chili Cook-off befitting Race for Hope DC.  Our President Scott Cornblatt cooked a delicious brisket chili, while Senior Project Manager George Watts, cooked a healthier lean option.  Both chilis received rave reviews, but we still fell short, placing second in “People’s Choice” category.  Better luck next year!

OLS volunteers at the NIH Children's Inn in bethesda MD

On an ongoing basis, the OLS representatives volunteer at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Children’s Inn in Bethesda.  Often teaming up with the Potomac Eye Surgeons, our time is spent preparing and serving home-cooked meals for the children and their families staying at the hospitality house, while receiving medical treatment.

Cushman & Wakefield Chili Cook-off benefiting Race for Hope DC

For the second year in a row, OLS participated in the Cushman & Wakefield Chili Cook-off supporting the Race for Hope DC. The team cooked two crockpots full of delicious chili, judged in four different categories.  In 2014, the OLS team received two medals for Overall Choice and Most Original.  Unfortunately this year, we didn’t take home any medals, but we will get them back next year!

OLS volunteers with KABOOM, Montgomery County Coalition for the Homeless and the Marriott Foundation to build a playground for formerly homeless kids

Last summer, KABOOM! partnered with the Montgomery County Coalition for the Homeless and the Marriott Foundation to build a playground for formerly homeless kids in the Gaithersburg area. KABOOM! is a national non-profit that seeks to improve the lives of all kids through play, especially those growing up in poverty in America.  For this build, the OLS team joined more than 200 local volunteers to help transform an apartment complex backlot into a family-friendly landscape – playground, picnic areas, and bike racks, and more – in only six hours! KABOOM! has built almost 2000 playgrounds across the country and we were very excited to be a part of the first in Montgomery County.

OLS volunteers Manna food bank in gaithersburg, MD

We learned a lot about our local community when we volunteered at Manna Food Bank in Gaithersburg, Md last year.   Manna Food Bank is a small food pantry that services approximately 40,000 families in Montgomery County annually and provides take-home meals for roughly 2,400 county students every weekend. While volunteering at Manna’s warehouse, we helped with inspecting, sorting, and organizing food donations for different segments of the community.
